COT: Man, stop avoiding the things you know you need to confront. A lot of us have been taught that being strong means keeping everything bottled up; our thoughts, fears, wounds, struggles, and emotions. We know Scripture says to take our thoughts captive, but that does not mean we are supposed to lock away the things God wants to heal and set free. Bring those things into the light instead of carrying them by yourself. Jesus promised this kind of help in John 14:16: “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate to help you and be with you forever.” The word translated Advocate, Helper, Counselor, or Comforter is the Greek paraklētos; literally, one called alongside to help. In the ancient world, the word commonly carried the sense of a legal advocate: one who comes beside a person to speak for them, support them, and help them in a time of need. The Holy Spirit is not a distant force; He is God’s abiding presence with us, teaching, strengthening, comforting, convicting, and helping us stand in truth. The popular illustration of soldiers fighting back-to-back captures a helpful spiritual image: believers need one another, and the Spirit covers the places where we are weak or vulnerable. However, it is best presented as an illustration rather than the historical definition of paraklētos, since the strongest ancient evidence points to its legal-advocacy meaning rather than a formal Roman or Greek military term. @Ray gun - praying for your family. @E720 - praying for your crew as you travel. @SeaLegs - praying that as you travel your family keeps a healthy rhythm and you can show them they are missed. @F’Bomb - praying for safe travel and drama free travel time.
