Then it says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ And when it comes, it finds the house empty, swept, and put in order. Then it goes and brings with it seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they enter and dwell there, and the last state of that person is worse than the first.” The house was cleaned up, swept, and put in order, but it was still empty. Many of us approach mental health the same way. We try to remove stress, anxiety, anger, bad habits, or isolation. Those are good things to work on, but Jesus reminds us that removing the negative isn’t enough. We also need to be filled with something greater. When we put our trust in Christ, God doesn’t simply clean us up and leave us empty. The Spirit of God comes to dwell within us. We are filled with His presence, His peace, and His strength. Mental health struggles often grow in isolation. We try to handle everything ourselves. But God designed us for connection—with Him and with each other. This week, don’t just ask yourself, “What do I need to remove from my life?” Ask, “What am I filling my life with?” Because God never intended for us to be empty houses. He intended for His Spirit to dwell within us and for brothers to walk beside us. This workout was designed to put us through some struggle. There were moments when it would have been easier to quit, slow down, or focus only on ourselves. Instead, we held the plank until the 6 was in. No one was left behind. Then we took our fellowship laps together as a group. We are stronger together.
